SPOILER PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS

Refer to Figure 1 for the following:

1. SS Spoiler:

The (SS) raw spoiler (primed only) (1) is painted

skirt black (paint code W No. 250E) on the

underside of the spoiler and the upper surfaces of

the spoiler around to the grooves (2) on the under

side are painted the vehicle body colour. Refer to

Figure 1.

S Spoiler:

The (S) raw spoiler (primed only) is painted the

vehicle body colour. The spoiler top trim (3)(raw

part) should be painted Canada Black. (paint code

W No. 237D).

a. Once the spoiler top trim has been painted, peel

the backing tape (4) from one side of the foam

backed double sided tape and stick in the

positions marked (4 places)on the underside of

the spoiler top trim.

b. Peel the Backing tape off the foam, align the three

tabs (5)on the forward edge of the spoiler top trim

with the corresponding indents (6) in the top

surface of the spoiler(7). Push the spoiler top trim

onto the spoiler for several seconds to ensure a

permanent fixing.

NOTE:

Refer to section 2.1 Paint Systems, in Section 1D of

the MY2003 VY & V2 Series Service Information for

correct painting preparation and application

procedures.

The Paint Code for the vehicle can be found on the

Body Option Identification Plate (1) mounted on the

front left cross member under the engine

compartment hood. The Paint Code enables

refinish paint to be matched with the original paint

colour. Refer to Figure 2.

The paint on the rear spoiler may not exactly match

the original colour due to fade, in which case paint

colour matching will be required. As this is an

acquired skill, it is a task that must be performed by

qualified individuals.

3. For pre-painted rear spoiler, remove the connector

block from the high mount stop lamp harness. Use a

small flat bladed screwdriver to release the crimp

connector retaining clip and place to one side for

reinstallation later. Refer to Figure 4.

2. When the spoiler is painted and ready to be fitted to

the vehicle; lay the spoiler on a soft clean surface on

its back and manipulate the high mount stop lamp

wiring harness (1) through the cavity, use a wire with

a hook on the end to assist in pulling the high mount

stop lamp wire harness out of the hole in the right

hand side spoiler mount pillar. Pull through the

remaining wire and fix the high mount stop lamp in

position with the hex headed screws (2) (2 places)

provided in the kit. Tighten to the specified torque. Fit

the hex head cover caps (3) (2 places). Refer to

Figure 3.

4. Push the screwdriver in the front of the connector

between the connector block and the crimp

connector to release the metal tongue and allow the

crimp connector to be withdrawn from the connector

block. Refer to Figure 5.

7. Identify the right hand side gasket (1) and peel off the

backing tape; pass the

(2) through the centre hole (adhesive side towards

spoiler face) and stick gasket to the spoiler mount.

8. Repeat process on left hand side.

5. Pull wires out of connector block. Put connector block

to one side for reinstallation later. Refer to Figure 6.

9. To gain access to the wiring connections the rear

compartment lid carpet (1) will need to be folded

back. Use a suitable trim clip removal tool to remove

the carpet retainer clips (2) around the rear RHS

corner of the rear compartment lid (4 places). Refer to

Figure 9.

10. Open rear compartment lid. Place a block of high

density foam (1) approximately 50x50x80mm, or

similar material, over the latch cavity and tape into

position. This will stop the compartment lid from

closing and allow working room around compartment

lid. Refer to Figure 10.

Refer to Figure 11 for the following:

11. Spray the surface of the compartment lid with a

cleaning agent, Meguiars Final Inspection

recommended, or equivalent (1). Wipe thoroughly

with the soft, clean tissue until dry.

12. Secure the rear compartment lid with tape (2). 12

NOTE: If using a Fiberglass drilling jig go to steps 19-21

13. If using the Paper template, copy and cut out the

drilling templates on Page 13.

IMPORTANT: Use the scale on the template to

ensure the templates are the correct size by

measuring the copied scale. Refer to Figure 12.

Refer to Figure 13 for the following:

14. Apply masking tape (1) to cover the areas where the

template will be positioned

15. Place a mark on the outer edge of the rear

compartment lid by measuring back from the forward

corner of the compartment lid 479mm in a straight

line backwards.

16. Align the edge of the template (2) with the edge of the

rear compartment lid and align the corner with the

arrow on the mark on the rear compartment lid and

tape into position.

17. Repeat on left-hand side of vehicle

18. Carefully Place the rear spoiler into position to check

alignment of the holes and adjust if necessary.

Go to step 22.

IF USING FIBREGLASS DRILLING JIG

Follow steps 19 - 21

19. Apply masking tape (1) across compartment lid in

zone (2) indicated to protect the paintwork from scuffs

and stop movement of the hole jig. Refer to Figure 14.

Refer to Figure 15 for the following:

20. The hole alignment jig (1) is fitted by placing the

forward edge of the alignment jig onto the rear edge

of the compartment lid and sliding home onto the

compartment lid. Ensure the jig is flat and the steps

on the ends (2) of the jig are flush with the edge of the

compartment lid.

21. Tape jig in position (3).

CAUTION: Wear appropriate eye protection when

performing Steps 22- 26.

Refer to Figure 16 for the following:

22. Use a 6mm pilot drill bit to carefully drill the four

mounting holes (1) through the rear compartment lid.

Also drill a 6mm pilot hole for the high mount stop

lamp harness (2) through the outer skin only of the

compartment lid into the cavity,(right side only).

23. Remove the jig or template from the compartment lid.

24. Use an 8mm drill bit with a depth stop fitted to prevent

the drill bit marking the body of the vehicle when

breaking through the compartment lid and open out

the four spoiler mounting holes.

25. Use a 10mm drill bit with a depth stop fitted to prevent

drill bit penetrating further than the outer skin of the

compartment lid and drill out the hole for the stop

lamp wiring harness.

IMPORTANT: do not increase the size of the hole

you will drill for the high mount stop lamp

harness to accommodate the connector block;

as the spoiler mounting pillar will not cover the

hole sufficiently to seal the hole and water will

leak into the compartment.

26. Remove all sharp edges using a de-burrer (1) and

clean the surface of all residue using a compressed

air gun. Refer to Figure 17.

27. Using soft brush (1), apply a high content Zinc primer

to all holes drilled.

28. When primer is dry, apply body colour touch up paint

ensuring all bare metal is covered and leave to dry.

29. Hold spoiler over rear compartment lid and feed the

high mount stop lamp wire (1) through the wiring

harness hole (right hand side). Refer to Figure 19.

Refer to Figure 20 for the following:

30. Install the rear spoiler (1) onto the rear compartment

lid. Put the washers (2) on the studs (3) (4 places)

and use the nuts (4) (4 places) provided in the kit to

secure the spoiler (hand tighten only).

31. Check the alignment of the spoiler on the rear

compartment lid and tighten the nuts to the specified

torque.

Refer to Figure 21 for the following:

32. Fold back the carpet, pull the spoiler high mount stop

lamp wiring out from within the rear compartment lid

cavity.

33. Make sure the locking tab (1) in each wire's tip is

pulled out.

34. Install red wire terminal into the hole marked “B” and

the Black wire into the hole marked “A” of the

connector (2).

35. Lock the wires into the connector block using the

retaining clip (1) provided. Refer to Figure 22.

36. Fold back the carpet, connect the spoiler high mount

stop lamp harness connector (1) to the vacant black

connector (2) attached to the compartment lid inner

paneling. Refer to Figure 23.

40. Make sure the spoiler stop-lamp works by pressing

the brake pedal.

emove the interior stop lamp bulb holder

from the roof of the rear compartment adjacent to the

courtesy light. Remove the bulb and refit holder into

position. Refer to Figure 25.

NOTE: Owing to the extra weight of the spoiler on the rear

compartment lid it is recommended that the rear

compartment lid gas struts are replaced by two higher

rated gas struts available separately (see parts list on last

page of these instructions for Part No.). Change one side

at a time.

37. Insert a small flat bladed screwdriver behind the

spring clip to release both the ball joints at ether end

of the gas struts sockets, remove the old gas strut

from the car.

38. Align the new higher rated gas strut over the ball

41. Clean paintwork around rear comportment area with

cleaning agent, Meguiars Final Inspection Cleaning

Solution recommended or equivalent and vacuum

luggage compartment to remove any debris.

For Calais and higher models.

NOTE: Calais and higher models will register a stop lamp

fault on the dashboard instrument panel when the car

ignition is turned to the on position, to correct this it is

necessary to update the vehicle body wiring status in the

engine management system.

42. Pull the hood release lever and open the hood.

IMPORTANT: Ensure the ignition is in the off position

before proceedings with step 43.

43. Remove the fuse and relay assembly panel cover (1).

Refer to Figure 26.

44. Use the fuse puller provided in the fuse panel inside

the vehicle to remove the 10A fuse from the engine

bay fuse holder at position 29. Refer to Figure 27.

45. Turn the car ignition switch to the “ON” position for 60

seconds and then turn the ignition switch back to the

“OFF” position.

46. Reinsert the 10A fuse into fuse holder position 29.

47. Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position and verify

that no warnings are being displayed, turn the

ignition switch back to the “OFF” position.

48. Replace panel cover and close the engine bay hood.

49. Place the fitting instructions in the glovebox.
