SECTION 0C1 - SERVICE PROGRAMMING SYSTEM
Service Precaution
WARNING: THIS VEHICLE HAS A SUPPLEMENTAL
RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS). REFER TO THE SRS
COMPONENT AND WIRING LOCATION VIEW IN
ORDER TO DETERMINE WHETHER YOU ARE
PERFORMING SERVICE ON OR NEAR THE SRS
COMPONENTS OR THE SRS WIRING. WHEN YOU
ARE PERFORMING SERVICE ON OR NEAR THE
SRS COMPONENTS OR THE SRS WIRING, REFER
TO THE SRS SERVICE INFORMATION. FAILURE TO
FOLLOW WARNINGS COULD RESULT IN POSSIBLE
AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT, PERSONAL INJURY, OR
OTHERWISE UNNEEDED SRS SYSTEM REPAIRS.
CAUTION: Always use the correct fastener in the
proper location. When you replace a fastener, use
ONLY the exact part number for that application.
HOLDEN will call out those fasteners that require a
replacement after removal. HOLDEN will also call
out the fasteners that require thread lockers or
thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED,
do not use supplemental coatings (Paints, greases,
or other corrosion inhibitors) on threaded fasteners
or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such
coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and
the joint clamping force, and may damage the
fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct
tightening sequence and specifications. Following
these instructions can help you avoid damage to
parts and systems.
Service Programming System (SPS)
The PCM fitted to MY2002 Frontera uses a non removable EEPROM (Flash Memory). As part of the vehicle
manufacturing process, the PCM is initially programmed with the correct calibration for normal vehicle operation. In
the event that the original PCM is replaced, or an updated calibration is required to correct a particular vehicle
operating condition, the PCM will have to be programmed. Programming is accomplished through the vehicle DLC
using the TECH 2 Service Programming System (SPS) and TIS 2000.
A Service Replacement Controller will not be programmed. Should TECH 2 display either Diagnostic Trouble Codes
P0601 - PCM Memory” orP0602 - PCM Not Programmed”, the flash memory is not programmed or has malfunc-
tioned. For further DTC information and diagnostic procedures refer to Section 6C1.
NOTE: Two Service Replacement Controllers” (PCMs) are available for the UES 6VD1 32-bit system - one for
automatic transmissioned vehicles and one for manual transmissioned vehicles. Ensure that the cor-
rect Service Replacement Controller” is fitted to the vehicle prior to attempting SPS. Any attempt to
program the incorrect controller to the vehicle will result in a TIS2000 error code E2700 - Incorrect
Hardware display and consequent programming failure. Refer to the latest parts listing for PCM part
number identification.
While visually similar, the UES Frontera V6 32-bit PCM is not interchangeable with the Holden GEN III
V8 PCM. When installing a new PCM, ensure that the correct PCM is fitted to the vehicle. Refer to the
latest parts listing for PCM part number identification.
CAUTION:
Before performing SPS inspect the TECH 2 DLC cable and the DLC connector and terminals for damage.
Any damage that causes an open circuit during the programming procedure could result in irreparable damage to
the PCM.
Battery voltage must be between 12 and 14 volts.
Incorrect battery voltage may cause programming failure and/or PCM failure.
The vehicle to be programmed must not be connected to a battery charger during the programming procedure.
1. Connect TECH 2 to DLC. Turn the ignition ON.
Press the TECH 2 PWR button to turn on TECH 2.
2. When the TECH 2 title screen is displayed, press
ENTER to continue.
