SECTION 4E - VT SERIES COMFORT, SECURITY &
CONVENIENCE
CAUTION:
This vehicle will be equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). A SRS will consist of
either seat belt pre-tension ers and a driver’s air bag , seat belt pre-t ensioners and a driv er’s and front
passenger’s air bag s or seat belt pre-tensio ners, driver’s and fron t passenger’s air bags and left and
right hand side air bags. Depending upon the system fitted, refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS, Section
12M Supplemental Restraint System in the VT Series I Service Information, before performing any
service operation on or around any SRS components, the steering mechanism or wiring. Failure to
follow the SAFETY PRECAUTIONS could result in SRS deployment, resulting in possible personal
injury or unnecessary SRS system repairs.
CAUTION:
This v ehicle may be equipped w ith LPG ( Liquefied Pet roleum Gas). In th e interests of safet y, the LPG
fuel system should be isolated by turning 'OFF' the manual service valve and then draining the LPG
service lines, before any service work is carried out on the vehicle. Refer to the LPG leaflet included
with the Owner's Handbook for details or in the VT Series I Service Information for more specific
servicing information.
1. GENERAL INFORMATION
This Section of the Holden By Design Service Inform ation Supplem ent, desc ribes the s ervice procedur es for the
Comfort, Convenience and Security packages, which consist of:
• Leather Bound Steering Wheel,
• Power Antenna,
• Audible Alarm system, and
• Cruise Control.
The leather bound steering wheel is designed to enhance dr iving pleasure by providing a feeling of comf ort and
luxury.
The power antenna offers automatic extension and retraction of the antenna mast when either the ignition or
radio is switched on or off, protecting it from damage while the vehicle is parked.
The audible alarm further adds to the standard VT Series security system by sounding if unlawful entry is
attempted via the doors, bonnet or rear compartment. The Audible alarm system is fully integrated with the
vehicle’s security system and is armed or disarmed with the remote power key.
Available only with automatic transmission, the Holden By Design cruise control system is fully integrated and
functions through the indicator stalk the same as the factory fitted system.
2. LEATHER BOUND STEERING WHEEL
The Holden By Design leather bound steering wheel
is the same leather bound steering wheel fitted as
standard to VT SS and Calais models.
The service proc edures are the s am e as the s tandard
VT Series steering wheel. Refer to Section 9A,
STEERING of the VT Series I Service Information.

3. POWER ANTENNA
The Holden By Design power antenna is controlled by
the audio system unit. A patch harness is connected
between the existing audio harness connector and the
radio as shown (1). The routing of the patch harness
follows the antenna lead to the power antenna.

The mounting of the power antenna is the same as
the factory fitted unit with the exception of the wiring
harness, which is routed through the same grommet
as the antenna lead as shown.
Service procedures for the Holden By Design power
antenna are the same as the factory fitted power
antenna. Refer to Section 12D, AUDIO SYSTEMS
and Section 12P, WIRING DIAGRAMS of the VT
Series I Service Information.

4. AUDIBLE ALARM
The Holden By Design audible alarm system upgrades the standard vehicle’s theft deterrent system to include an
audible warning should illegal entry be attempted.
4.1 DESCRIPTION
As shown in Fig. 4E-4, the system inc orporates a secur ity horn (1) , bonnet switch (2) , diode (3), alar m relay (4) and
an upgraded Body Control Module (BCM) (5). The existing sedan or wagon rear compartment light (6) and dome
light (7) are als o incorporated into the system . A patch wiring harness is used to integrate the com ponents with the
existing security system.
The audible alarm system is fully integrated with the existing security system and is armed and disarmed with the
remote key (8).
4.2 OPERATION
W hen entry is detected by the BCM from either the dome light, rear compartm ent light or bonnet switch, the BCM
pulses the audible alarm relay which sounds the security horn once every second.
Service procedures for the audible alarm are the sam e as the theft deterrent system for VT Ser ies Berlina models,
with the exception of the wiring schematic, which is provided in Figure 4E-5.

5. CRUISE CONTROL
The Holden By Design cruise control system fully integrates with the vehicle. Operation of the system is the same
as the factory fitted system, described in the owners handbook.
5.1 DESCRIPTION
As shown in Fig. 4E-8, the system incorporates a release switch (1), actuator (2), engine compartment patch
harness (3), interior patch harness (4) and control switch (5) which replaces the original indicator stalk.
Two light globes are added to the instrument cluster for the cruise control ‘on’ and ‘active’ indicator lamps (6).
The patc h wiring harnesses are us ed to integrate the system with the existing Body Control Module and brak e light
switch.
Service procedures for the cruise control system are the same as the factory fitted cruise control system, with the
exception of the patch harness as shown and wiring schematic which is shown in Figure 4E-7.
