SECTION H – STEERING AND WHEELS
CAUTION:
HSV vehicles are equipped w ith a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). An SRS consists of seat belt pre-
tensioners (fit ted t o all f ront seats), and a d river’s- side a ir b ag AND a pa sse nger’s-sid e ai r bag and l eft and
right hand side airbags. Refer to CAUTIONS, Section 12M, of the Holden Series V2 Coupe Service
Information before performing any service operation on or around SRS components, the steering
mechanism or wiring. Failure to follow the CAUTIONS could result in personal injury or unnecessary SRS
system repairs .
1. STEERING AND WHEELS
1.1 PURPOSE
The purpose of this section is to provide information on the wheels, tyres and steering wheels fitted to the HSV
GTO and GTS Coupe models. The information is designed to supplement that given in the Holden V2 Coupe
Series Service Information and details are given where differences occur between the HSV models and standard
Holden m odels. A series of instruction drawings desc ribe the design changes and in dicate specific part numbers,
fitting instructions and relevant notes for vehicle servicing.
NOTE:
If specific technical data on a HSV model is not contained in this supplement, obtain data for that m odel from the
relevant Holden V2 Coupe Series Information. References are made throughout this section to Holden Service
Information, to assist in providing information for specific service operations.
CAUTION:
W hen hoisting (or jac king) HSV models , ensure that the lifting h ead of the hoist l ifts on the chass is before the ar m
of the hoist contact the side skirt.
2. WHEELS AND TYRES
2.1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION
HSV GTO and GTS Coupe models are fitted with alloy wheels developed specifically for each HSV application.
Several types and sizes of wheel are manufactured to suit the various applications and each wheel is manufactured
from a single-piece alloy casting.
NOTE:
Specific wheel nuts are us ed to attach ‘T’ Design wheels to the vehicle. These nuts are fitted with a plastic dress
cap, which must be removed prior to undoing the wheel nuts.
CAUTION:
HSV GT O and GTS Coupe wh eels do not have a s teel insert a nd therefor e require wheel n uts with a flang ed seat
as per the VT, VT2 and VX wheel nuts, 10B-970304. DO NOT use VS wheel nuts on HSV Coupe wheels.
2.2 SERVICE OPERATIONS
Allo y wheels f itted to all H SV ve hicl es are to be s ervic ed in accor danc e with the p roc edures deta iled in the r ele vant
Holden Service Information, refer to Section 10 – WHEELS AND TYRES. In addition, particular care should be
taken with the surface finish of alloy wheels. The manufacturer recommends that alloy surfaces be treated the
same as high-gloss painted surfaces to prevent corrosion and general deterioration.
2.3 WHEEL AND TYRE BALANCING
In order to balance the HSV Design wheels and tyre assemblies, refer to the relevant Holden Series Service
Information, refer to Section 10 – WHEELS AND TYRES of the VT Series II Service Information.
NOTE:
HSV wheels are balanced with concealed weights. The lateral distance between these weights is considerably less
than the actu al width of the whee l. To achie ve whee l balance with in specif ication with conceal ed balanc e weights ,
set the balancing machine for a wheel width of 5.5”. Figure 10I-010001 and 10I-010002 also explains this
requirement.
3. STEERING WHEEL
CA UTION:
HSV GTO and GTS Coupe vehicles are equipped with AIR B AGS. An AIR BAG is a Supplemental Restraint
System (SRS). Refer to CAUTIONS, Section 12M, of the Holden V2 Coupe Series Service Information
before performing any service operation on or around SRS components, the steering mechanism or w iring.
Failure to follow the CAUTIONS could result in air bag deployment, resulting in possible personal injury or
unnecessary SRS system repairs.

other components, fixtures and fasteners are identical to standard Holden parts and therefore, any service
operations on the assembly should be carried out in accordance with the relevant Holden Service Information
