SECTION G - FUEL AND EXHAUST SYSTEMS
CAUTION:
HSV vehicles are equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). An SRS consists of seat belt pre-
tensioners (fitted to all front seats), and a driver’s-side air bag or a driver’s-side air bag AND a passenger’s-
side air bag. Refer to CAUTIONS, Section 12M , of the Holden VX Series Service Information before performing
any service operation on or around SRS components, the steering mechanism or wiring. Failure to follow the
CAUTIONS could result in personal injury or unnecessary SRS system repairs.
PURPOSE
The purpos e of this supplem ent is to pr ovide infor m ation on the fuel and exhaust system s fitted to the HSV VU models .
This information is designed to supplement that given in the Holden VU Service Information, and details are given
where diff erences occur between the HSV models , and standard Holden m odels . A ser ies of instr uction drawings detail
the design changes and indicate specific part numbers, fitting instructions and relevant notes for vehicle servicing.
NOTE:
If specific technical data on a HSV model is not contained in this supplement, obtain data for that model from the
relevant HSV or Holden VU Series Service Information.
CAUTION:
W hen hoisting (or jacking) HSV m odels, ensure that the lifting head of the hoist lifts on the chassis before the arm of
the hoist contacts the side-skirt
1. HSV EXHAUST SYSTEMS GENERAL INFORMATION.
The development of unique HSV Exhaust Systems has been necessitated by, and conducted in parallel with, the
development of engines and transmissions. A range of exhaust systems has been developed to satisfy the demands for
specific applications. Each developm ent has been designed to operate with a specific engine and has been proven by
extensive testing.
For VU the exhaust has been developed to produce a sports oriented note, which still meets legal requirements. The
design of the r ear muf f ler is s imilar to the s traight thr ough, low backpres sur e des ign used on G TS, although it has been
retuned to provide differentiation in the exhaust notes.
Although HSV and Holden exhaust systems are different, the general principles are the same. Service notes specified
in relevant Holden Service Information provide useful information. Particularly, the relationship between exhaust
components and the clearances between exhaust components and the vehicle body are important. Inform ation on the
relationship of HSV components, torque settings and clearances between exhaust components and the body of the
vehicle is presented in this section.
2. VU MALOO 255 EXHAUST SYSTEMS
2.1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Much of the exhaust system fitted to the HSV VU model is carried over from HSV VX.
The rear muffler inlet pipes have changed to clear the different rear shock absorber layout used with the VU.
Other than the rear muffler, the exhaust system is the same as the HSV WH Grange exhaust.
2.2 SERVICE OPERATIONS
When servicing the exhaust systems fitted to HSV VU vehicles, refer to Instruction Drawing 08I-010001.
For fitment clearances refer to the Exhaust Section of the HSV WH Grange Series Service information, refer to
Section G – Fuel And Exhaust Systems of the HSV VX Series Service Information.
3. HSV FUEL SYSTEMS GENERAL INFORMATION
All com ponents of the f uel systems in the HSV VU m odel are st andard Holden com ponents. It follows that referenc e to
the appropriate Holden Service Information is necessary when performing any servicing operation on these
components.
Refer to Section 8A – Fuel Tank of the Holden VU Series Service Information.
