SECTION J - OPTIONS AND ACCESSORIES
CAUTION:
HSV vehicles are equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). An SRS consists of seat belt pre-
tensioners (fitted to all front seats), and a driver’s-side air bag or a driver’s-side air bag AND a passenger’s-
side air bag and left and right side air bags. Refer to CAUTIONS, Section 12M of the Holden VU series
Service Information before performing any service operation on or around SRS components, the steering
mechanism or wiring. Failure to follow the CAUTIONS could result in personal injury or unnecessary SRS
system repairs .
PURPOSE
The purpose of this sup plement is to provide inform ation on the special options and accessories fitted t o the HSV
VU models. This information is designed to supplement that contained in the Holden VU Series Service
Inform ation, and detai ls are given where diff erences oc cur between th e HSV m odels and standard H olden m odels.
A series of instruction drawings detail the design changes and indicate specific part numbers, fitting instructions
and relevant notes for vehicle servicing.
NOTE:
If specific technical data on a HSV model is not contained in this supplement, obtain data for that model from the
relevant Holden VU Series Service Information. References are made throughout this section to Holden Service
Information, to assist in providing information for specific service operations.
CAUTION:
W hen hoisting (or jac king) HSV models , ensure that the lifting h ead of the hoist lifts on the chass is before the arm
of the hoist contacts the side-skirt
1. FIRE EXTINGUISHER
1.1 GENERAL
HSV VU models are fitted with a HSV design fire extinguisher. The extinguisher is located in the passenger
compartment behind drivers seat.

1.2 SERVICE OPERATIONS
The fire extinguisher should be subjected to a regular visual inspection in accordance with the instructions on the
extinguis her. Par tic ularl y, the extin guisher should be ins pected f or dam age and to ensure tha t the integr al pr essur e
gauge registers the appropriate internal pressure. When discharged or when the internal pressure is outside the
prescribed limits, the extinguishers should be serviced and re-charged by an appropriate supplier. New
extinguishers are available through the HSV spare parts systems.
2. HSV EMBEDDED SECURITY SYSTEM VU
2.1 GENERAL
The new HSV Em bedded Securit y System (ESS) is f itted as standard equipm ent to all HSV VU models. T he ESS
is a micro-processor controlled immobiliser which automatically interrupts essential electrical circuits when in
“arm ed m ode”. T he ES S st ores the BCM ’s s ec urit y co de and when th e c ar is s tarted it rea ds this c ode f rom the SCI
bus. If this code is different from the stored one the ESS enters armed mode and prevents the vehicle from starting.

3. HSV FOG LAMPS
3.1 GENERAL
HSV Fog lamps are fitted directly to the front fascia of all HSV VU models.
3.2 SERVICE OPERATION

4. HSV TONNEAU HARD COVER
4.1 GENERAL
The HSV optional Tonneau Hard Cover is fitted to the Load Tray area of the vehicle.
Two Key type Locks are located toward the rear of the cover on the top surface.
The cover is opened by releasing the key locks and lifting the cover at its rear. Gas Struts located on both sides
support the cover to hold it open.
Do not store valuables in t he Hard Cover and follow the safety warnings on t he identification plate loca ted in front
of the Courtesy Lamp.
The Courtesy Lamp is operated by depressing its Lens in a joggle motion.
4.2 SERVICE OPERATION
