1 General Information
This Section provides details on the Starting S ystem fitted to the MY 2004 HSV VZ Series vehicl es.
The starting system used on the GEN IV V8 is similar to that used on the GEN III V8. However, the following
modifications may affect diagnostic proced ures:
A Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is no longer used and is replaced with a separate Transmissio n Control
Module (TCM – for automatic transmission models onl y) and Engine Control Module (ECM).
The Powertrain Interface Module (PIM) symbol code has been changed from A5 to A156. Refer to Figure 6D4-2 – 1
for further information.
The engine-cranking sign al is directed to the ECM and not the PIM.
