ATTENTION
HSV vehicles are equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). An SRS consists of seat belt pre-
tensioners (fitted to all front seats), a driver’s-side air bag, a passenger’s-side air b ag and left and right hand
side air bags. Refer to CAUTIONS, Section 12M Occupant Protection System in the MY 2005 WL Series
Service Information before performing any service operation on or around SRS components, the steering
mechanism or wiring. Failure to follow the CAUTIONS could result in personal injury or unnecessary SRS
system repairs.

1 Purpose
The purpose of this bulletin is to provide information on the transmission assemblies fitted to the HSV WL models. This
information is designed to supplement the information contained in the Holden WL series Service Manuals, and details
are given where differences occur between the HSV models and standard Holden models. A series of instruction
drawings describe the design changes and indicate specific part numbers, fitting instructions and relevant notes for
vehicle servicing.
NOTE
If specific technical data on a HSV model is not
contained in this supplement, obtain data for that
model from the relevant Holden WL series
Service Manual Supplement. References are
made throughout this section to Holden Service
Manuals, to assist in providing information for
specific service operations.
When hoisting (or jacking) HSV models,
ensure that the liftin g head of the hoist lifts on
the chassis before the arm of the hoist
contacts the side-skirt

2 General Information
Automatic transmissions only are fitted to the HSV WL models. HSV models fitted with standard Holden transmissions
are to be serviced in accordance with the relevant Holden Service Manual.

3 Automatic Transmission
3.1 General Description
The automatic transmission fitted to HSV WL models are the heavy duty Hydramatic 4L65E, which are variants of the
Hydra-matic 4L60E transmissions. These transmissions include calibration and hardware changes over the standard
4L60E transmission.
As in all HSV developments, reliability and efficiency have been improved as a result of engineering research,
development and extensive testing. In most cases, development of the standard transmissions has been necessitated by
- and carried out in parallel with - the development of HSV’s enhanced range of engines. The result is that all HSV WL
models have an engine-transmission combination designed to satisfy (and to exceed) the operating specification of the
vehicle.

3.2 HSV WL 297
The Automatic Transmission available for W L 297 Models, is the model HMD M32. Service operations are the
same as those described in the Holden WL series Service Information, refer to
Section 7C1 – Hydra-Matic 4l60-E Automatic Transmission – General Information.
Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
HSV transmissions fitted to 297 kW vehicles incorporate a specific PCM. This HSV PCM is calibrated to recognise the
higher torque of the engine, and to provide a specific shift pattern for optimum control of the vehicle. Section E of this
Supplement provides the identification and service numbers of the PCM required for these transmissions.
