1 General Information
With the following exception, MY 2004 VY and V2 Series Fuel Tank information carries over from MY 2003 VY and
V2 Series vehicles:
fuel level sender assembly.
For all other fuel tank information, refer to Section 8A1 Fuel Tank in the MY 2003 VY and V2 Series service information.
1.1 Fuel Level Sender Assembly
The MY 2004 VY and V2 Series fuel level sender assembly ceramic resistor card parameters are reversed (that is, the
resistance is 40 when full and 250 when empty). The reversal of the sender card resistance affects only the
following MY 2004 VY and V2 Series vehicles:
domestic vehicles fitted with a V6 (naturally aspirated) engine,
vehicles exported to the Middle East fitted with a V6 (naturally aspirated) engine, and
vehicles fitted with a GEN III V8 engine.
The modular fuel pump and sender assembly used on the MY 2004 VY and V2 Series vehicles defined above and on
MY 2003 VY and V2 Series vehicles are incompatible and affects Service Information documentation.
MY 2004 VY and V2 Series vehicles fitted with the supercharged V6 engine and vehicles exported to Brazil and Brunei
carry over the MY 2003 VY and V2 Series modular fuel pump and sender assembly calibration (that is, 40 when
empty and 250 when full).

2 Service Operations
2.1 Modular Fuel Pump and Sender
Assembly
Test
The fuel level sender assembly fitted to all
MY 2004 VY and V2 Series domestic and
Middle East naturally aspirated V6 vehicles
and GEN III V8 vehicles is not compatible
with the fuel level sender assembly fitted to
MY 2003 VY and V2 Series vehicles and
V2 Series II Coupe.
1 For all MY 2004 VY and V2 Series domestic and
Middle East naturally aspirated V6 vehicles and
GEN III V8 vehicles, measure the resistance across
terminals 2 and 3 of the fuel pump motor connector.
Take the following measurements:
a With the fuel level sender assembly in the empty
position, the resistance should be approximately
250 ohms.
b With the fuel level sender assembly in the full
position, the resistance should be approximately
40 ohms.
Figure 8A1 – 1
2 If the resistance at either of these positions is not within tolerance, replace the fuel level sender assembly, refer to
Section 8A1 Fuel Tank in the MY 2003 VY and V2 Series Service information.
