1 General Information
The basic HVAC system as fitted to MY 2004 AWD Crew Cab vehicles is carried over from previously released MY 2004
VY Series vehicles. Single zone HVAC Occupant Climate Control (Auto A/C) is available as part of the leather interior
package and is identical to that fitted to high level VY Series models.
For information regarding the removal and installation of heating, ventilation and air conditioning system components
which are common to both Manual A/C and OCC (Auto A/C) type systems (e.g. ventilation outlets, ducting, piping, hoses,
condenser, filter drier receiver, compressor, heater core, cooling fans and water valve), refer to Section 2B HVAC
Climate Control (Manual A/C) – Removal and Installation in the MY 2003 VY and V2 Series Service Information. For
information regarding the removal and installation of the blower fan and evaporator, refer to Section 2B HVAC Climate
Control (Manual A/C) – Removal and Installation in the MY 2004 VY and V2 Series Service Information.
As inclinometer gauges are fitted to the top of the centre trim assembly on MY 2004 AWD Crew Cab vehicles, additional
information for the removal and installation of the OCC control module applies. A reference detailing this information is
provided in this Section.
For information regarding the removal and installation of heating, ventilation and air conditioning system components
which are specific to OCC (Auto A/C) type systems (excluding the solenoid pack and the evaporative temperature
sensor), refer to Section 2E HVAC Occupant Climate Control (Auto A/C) – Removal and Installation in the MY 2003 VY
and V2 Series Service Information. For information regarding the removal and installation of the solenoid pack and the
evaporative tem perat ure sen s or, refer to Section 2E HVAC Occupant Climate Control (Auto A/C) – Removal and
Installation in the MY 2004 VY and V2 Series Service Information.
If removal of the HVAC unit is required, refer to Section 2B, 3 Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Unit in
the MY 2003 VY and V2 Series Service Information noting that, as stated above, the instrument panel centre trim
removal procedure is different as inclinometer gauges are fitted to top of the centre trim assembly. The information
provided in Section 2B, 3 Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Unit is applicable to both Manual A/C and
OCC (Auto A/C) type systems.

ATTENTION
All fasteners are important attaching parts as they affect the performance of vital components and / or could
result in major repair expense. Where specified in this section, fasteners MUST be replaced with parts of the
same part number or a GM approved equivalent. Do not use fasteners of an inferior quality or substitute
design.
Torque values must be used as specified during reassembly to ensure proper retention of all components.
Throughout this section, fastener torque wrench specifications may be accompanied with the following
identification marks:
!
!!
! Fasteners must be replaced after loosening.
"
""
" Vehicle must be at kerb height before final tightening.
#
##
# Fasteners either have micro encapsulated sealant applied or incorporate a mechanical thread lock and
should only be re-used once. If in doubt, replacement is recommended.
If one of these identification marks is present alongside a fastener torque wrench specification, the
recommendation regarding that fastener must be adhered to.
