1 General Information
With the following exceptions, the Hydra-Matic 4L65-E four speed automatic transmission unit repair information carries
over from MY 2003 VY Series vehicles. For information not contained in this Section, refer to Section 7C5, Hydra-Matic
4L60-E Automatic Transmission: Unit Repair in MY 2003 VY and V2 Series Service Information.
• The input carrier is up-graded to a new five-pinion construction to cater for high torque and load demands.
• The sun reaction shell thrust washer is up-graded to a new thrust needle bearing construction to cater for high
torque and load demands.
• The reaction carrier is up-graded to a new five-pinion construction to cater for high torque and load demands.
• An oil deflector has been added for the five-pinion reaction carrier.
• The output shaft sleeve and output shaft seal are unique to cater for the new five-pinion carrier.
• The O-ring seal for the turbine shaft is unique.
• The input housing and shaft assembly is unique to cater for high torque and load demands.
• The quantity of the composition clutch plates used in the third and fourth clutch plate assembly has increased.
• The quantity of steel clutch plates used in the third and fourth clutch plate assembly has increased.
• New select fit third and fourth clutch backing plate to cater for the increased quantity of third and fourth clutch
composition and steel clutch plates has been introduced.
• The control valve body gasket and spacer plate are unique and have the identification marking of 'VB IPU CA'.
NOTE
Although the Hydra-Matic 4L65-E four speed
automatic transmission contains several unique
components, the unit repair procedures remain
unchanged from the information provided for the
Hydra-Matic 4L60-E.
