SECTION 9A - STEERING
CAUTION:
This vehicle will be equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). A SRS will consist of either
seat belt pre-tensioners and a driver's air bag, seat belt pre-tensioners and a driver's and front
passenger's air b ags o r seat b elt p re-t ension ers, driv er’s an d f ron t p asseng er’s air bag and left and righ t
hand side air bags. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS, Section 12M Supplemental Restraint System in
Volume 12 of this Service Manual before performing any service operation on, or around any SRS
components, the steering mechanism or wiring. Failure to follow the SAFETY PRECAUTIONS could
result in SRS deployment, resulting in possible personal injury or unnecessary SRS system repairs.
1. GENERAL INFORMATION
Steering on VT Ser ies Models with Produc tion Option (P.O.) 9C1 and A8V is as detailed in Section 9A STEERING
of the VT Series I Ser vice Infor m ation or Sectio n 9A STEERING of the VT Series II Ser vice Inf orm ation, noting the
following:
A high ambient tem peratur e kit P.O. 5D2, is available for all national police vehic les. One of the m ajor c omponents
of this kit is a power steering oil cooler for vehicles with a V8 engine. The kit is installed by Holden By Design (HBD).
2. SERVICE OPERATIONS
2.1 POWER STEERING OIL COOLER
For the general arrangements, including the correct routing and torque specifications of the power steering oil
cooler, hoses, pipes and fittings used for the power steering system, refer to the following:
Vehicles with 5.0 litre V8 engine with automatic transmission auxiliary oil cooler – Refer Fig. 9A-1 below.
Vehicles with GEN III V8 engines – 3.11 OIL COOLER AND HOSE/PIPE ROUTING - GEN III V8 ENGINE in
Section 9A STEERING, of the VT Series II Service Information.
