SECTION 0C1 - SERVICE PROGRAMMING SYSTEM
Service Precaution
Service Programming System (SPS)
Service Precaution
WARNING: THIS VEHICLE HAS A SUPPLEMENTAL
RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS). REFER TO THE SRS
COMPONENT AND WIRING LOCATION VIEW IN
ORDER TO DETERMINE WHETHER YOU ARE
PERFORMING SERVICE ON OR NEAR THE SRS
COMPONENTS OR THE SRS WIRING. WHEN YOU
ARE PERFORMING SERVICE ON OR NEAR THE
SRS COMPONENTS OR THE SRS WIRING, REFER
TO THE SRS SERVICE INFORMATION. FAILURE TO
FOLLOW WARNINGS COULD RESULT IN POSSIBLE
AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT, PERSONAL INJURY, OR
OTHERWISE UNNEEDED SRS SYSTEM REPAIRS.
CAUTION: Always use the correct fastener in the
proper location. When you replace a fastener, use
ONLY the exact part number for that application.
HOLDEN will call out those fasteners that require a
replacement after removal. HOLDEN will also call
out the fasteners that require thread lockers or
thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED,
do not use supplemental coatings (Paints, greases,
or other corrosion inhibitors) on threaded fasteners
or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such
coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and
the joint clamping force, and may damage the
fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct
tightening sequence and specifications. Following
these instructions can help you avoid damage to
parts and systems.
Service Programming System (SPS)
The ECU fitted to MY2002 TF Rodeo vehicles with the 4JH1-TC Diesel engine uses a non removable EEPROM
(Flash Memory). The ECU is programmed from the factory with the proper calibrations for vehicle operation. In the
event that the ECU is replaced, or an updated calibration is required to correct a vehicle's operating condition, the
ECU will have to be programmed with the new calibration. Programming is accomplished through the vehicle DLC
using the TECH 2 Service Programming System (SPS) and TIS 2000.
A service replacement ECU may not be programmed. DTC P0601 - ECU Memory and DTC P0602 -ECU Not Pro-
grammed indicates the flash memory is not programmed or has malfunctioned. For further DTC information and diag-
nostic procedures refer to Section 6C1.
CAUTION:
1. Before performing SPS, inspect the TECH 2 DLC cable and the DLC connector and terminals for damage. Any
damage that causes an open circuit during the programming procedure may result in irreparable damage to the
ECU.
2. Battery voltage must be between 12 and 14 volts. The vehicle to be programmed must not be connected to a
battery charger during the programming procedure. Incorrect battery voltage may cause programming failure and/or
ECU failure.
3. Do Not alter the status of either the ignition switch or TECH 2 unless instructed to do so by the programming
procedure. Turning either the ignition switch or TECH 2 OFF during the SPS programming procedure may result in
irreparable damage to the ECU.
NOTE:
When installing a new ECU, ensure that the correct ECU is fitted to the vehicle. Refer to the latest parts listing for ECU
part number identification.
NOTE: Due to the constant evolution of TECH 2
software, the screens shown in this section may
differ slightly from those displayed for the vehicle
being tested.
1. Connect TECH 2 to DLC. Turn the ignition ON.
Press the TECH 2 PWR button to turn on TECH 2.
