SECTION 4B - FINAL DRIVE AND DRIVE SHAFTS
IMPORTANT:
Before performing any Service Operation or other procedure described in this Section, refer to Section
00 CAUTIONS AND NOTES for correct workshop practices with regard to safety and/or property damage.
1. GENERAL I NFORMATI O N
Independent rear suspension is fitted as standard equipment on all V2 Series Models, with two final drive ratios
available. All V2 Series Models fitted with autom atic transm ission are fitted with Production O ption GU4 (final drive
ratio of 3.07:1). All V2 Series Models with manual transmission are fitted with Production Option GS9 (final drive
ratio of 3.46:1).
Production option G80, Limited Slip Differential (LSD), (also referred to as Spin Resistant Differential - SRD) is
available as optional equipment on CV6 and fitted as standard equipment on CV8, regardless of final drive ratio.
The final drive assemblies fitted to V2 Series Models fitted with automatic transmission carry over from VX Series
Models fitted with the GEN III V8 engine and automatic transmission, noting the following:
• A friction modifying additive (Sturaco 7098) has been added to V2 Series Models fitted with a limited slip
differential (Production Option G80).
The f inal drive fitted to V2 Ser ies Models with m anual transm is sion carr y over from VX Series Models with the GEN
III V8 engine and manaul transmission, noting the following:
• A friction m odifying additive (Sturaco 7098) has been added to selected V2 Series Models fitted with a limited
slip differential (Production Option G80).
For detailed information regarding the Sturaco additive, refer to 1.4 FINAL DRIVE LUBRICANT
RECOMMENDATIONS in Section 4B FINAL DRIVE AND DRIVE SHAFTS in the VX Series II Service Information.
For all other information relating to final drives fitted to V2 Series Models not provided in this Section, refer to
Section 4B FINAL DRIVE AND DRIVE SHAFTS in the VX Series Service Information in conjunction with Section
4B FINAL DRIVE AND DRIVE SHAFTS in the VT Series II and VT Series I Service Information.
The drive shafts fitted to V2 Series Models carry over from VX Series Models. For information relating to drive
shafts f itted to V2 Series Models, r ef er to Section 4B FINAL DRIVE AND DRIVE SHAFTS in the VX Series Service
Information.
1. 1 FINAL DRIVE ASSEMBLY IDENTIFICATION
The type of differential fitted to this final drive
assembly can be identified by referring to the
identification label (1) attached to the RHS of the
carrier housing (2), refer Fig. 4B-1.
The identification tag carries the Holden part
number for the f inal drive assem bly, f inal drive r atio
and the serial number of the assembly.
The code number and bar code is used for
production identification of the final drive assembly.
