SECTION 6A1 - ENGINE MECHANICAL - V6 ENGINE
IMPORTANT
Before p erforming any Serv ice Operation or other procedu re described in this Section , refer to Section
00 CAUTIONS AND NOTES for correct workshop practices with regard to safety and/or property
damage.
1. GENERAL I NFORMATI ON
Apart from the changes noted in this Section, the V6 engine carries over from VT Series II vehicles. The information
contained in this Section is to be read in conjunction with previously released Service Information, refer to
Section 6A1 - ENGINE MECHANICAL – V6 ENGINE of the VT Series II Service Information.
SUMMARY OF CHANGES
1. Introduced with VX Series models, the rear
main oil seal carrier housing gasket material
was changed. A non-stick coating has been
added to the beaded side of the gasket (1),
allowing it to move independently from the
cylinder block. Visibly the new gasket can be
identified by a slight pinkish tinge to the beaded
side.
Should replacement be required, both the
revised gasket AND the rear main oil seal
carrier housing (2) MUST be fitted.
The new parts will service back to earlier build
engines but the two parts MUST also be fitted.

2. Introduced with the release of VX Series m odels ,
the purging location for the PCV valve was
changed by providing a channel in the lower
intake manifold, with the outlet located directly
behind the throttle valve opening. T his pr ovides a
more even distribution of crankcase fumes,
thereby improving spark plug reliability and a
reduction in emissions.
While there is no specific servicing requirement
for the PCV valve, apart from a functionality
check, whenever the upper inlet manifold is
separated from the lower half, then the PCV
valve passage (‘A’ in Fig. 6A1-2) in the lower
inlet m anifold (9) should be cleaned to avoid any
possibility of the passage becoming clogged.

3. Introduced as a running change to the V6 engine during the production life of VT Series II vehicles, a m odified
throttle body was introduced from engine number VH937404, together with a changed pintle valve in the IAC
Valve. This, together with a hole drilled in the throttle plate, results in better hot/cold climate driveability.
