IMPORTANT
Before performing any Service Operation or other procedure described in this Section, refer to Section
00 CAUTIONS AND NOTES for correct workshop practices with regard to safety and/or property damage.
1. GENERAL I NFORMATI O N
The cooling system for VX Series Models for vehicles equipped with a V6 engine remain unchanged from VT Series
II Models, and service operations are as detailed in Section 6B1-1 ENGINE COOLING - V6 ENGINE in the VT
Series II Service Information, noting the following:
1. A minor c hange to the c ooling f an wiring has been implemented, involving a single, sealed c onnec tor. However,
this change does not affect the operation of the cooling fans. For additional information, refer to
Sections 12N FUSES, RELAYS & WIRING HARNESSES and Sections 12P WIRING DIAGRAMS of the
VX Series Service Information.
2. Some changes were made to the transmission coolers either as a running change to VT Series II Models or
from VX start of production. For detailed information regarding these changes, refer to Section 7C4
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION in the VT Series II and VX Series Service Information.
1.1 SERVICE NOTES
To reduce the impact on the environment and the maintenance cost, whenever the coolant is drained from any
engine, the service records are to be checked to determine when the coolant was last changed. If more than six
months life is left before the next coolant change, then the following procedure is to be adhered to:
1. W hen dr aining the coolant from the engine, use a c lean container of at least 12 litres capacity and ensur e that
the coolant is not contaminated in the draining process.
2. After repairs have been completed, refill the engine cooling system with the drained coolant.
3. Top up as required, using a 50/50 mix of clean water and ‘New Formula Long Life All Seasons Coolant’ to
Holden Specification HN 2043. Refer 2.2 GLYCOL COOLANT MAINTENANCE and 2.3 CHECKING AND
FILLING COOLING SYSTEM (V6 Engine) or 2.2 CHECKING AND FILLING COOLING SYSTEM
(V6 Supercharged Engine) in the VT Series I and VT Series II Service Information for the necessary
procedures and further information.
