SECTION 8B - EXHAUST SYSTEM
IMPORTANT
Before p erforming any Serv ice Operation or other procedu re described in this Section , refer to Section
00 CAUTIONS AND NOTES for correct workshop practices with regard to safety and/or property
damage.
1. GENERAL DESCRI PTI O N
In previous servicing information relating to the exhaust system fitted to VT Series vehicles, reference to the
presence and replacement of the self-adhesive, reflective foil heat shield insulators applied to the under floor area
at each exhaust pipe location has been omitted.
Apart from this revision, the exhaust system fitted to VX Series vehicles remains as described in VT Series I and
VT Series II Service Information.
2. SERVICE OPERATIONS
2.1 HEAT SHIELD INSULATOR
REPLACE
Should either or both of the heat shield insulators require replacement, then the following procedure is
recommended.
CAUTION: To avoid the possibility of personal injury by burns, allow the exhaust pipe to cool dow n before
attempting this operation and wear protective gloves before handling the hot foil in Step 4.
1. Peel the reflective foil insulator/s to be replaced from the under floor and discard.
2. Use a s olvent s oaked rag to r emove all trac es of the old insu lator adhes ive, s ealer over s pray or paint overspray
(should the vehicle have been repaired).
3. Heat the reflective foil to 40 ± 5° C.
4. Peel the adhesive protective paper from a NEW reflective foil heat insulator and apply the insulator to the
cleaned under floor area in the same position as the removed part. Smooth out any air bubbles in the process.
NOTE: Do not attempt to re-use a removed reflective foil insulator. Always use a new part.
Figure 8B-1 provides a reference to the location of the two ref lective foil insulators described, using the V6 engine
as the example. The heat shield insulator replacement procedure juts described however, can be used for all
engine applications.
