1 General Information
This Section describes the service procedures for the radiator grille assembly attached to the hood on MY2004 WK
Series Vehicles.
A lower radiator grille is also fitted, however as it is part of the front bumper fascia assembly refer to Section 1D Bumper
Bars for service procedures.
Three key styles of radiator grilles are offered depending on Model Level of the vehicle, refer to Figure 1C – 1:
Model Level 1, 2 & 3 (1) – a four piece assembly consisting of a separate inner, upper grille surround, lower
grille surround, and centre escutcheon. A Chevrolet emblem is fitted onto the escutcheon.
Model Level 4 and Model level 5 for Gulf States (2) – a two piece assembly consisting of a separate inner and
upper grille surround.
Model Level 5 for domestic (3) – a four piece assembly consisting of a separate inner, upper grille surround,
lower grille surround and rear air deflector.

2 Service Operations
2.1 Radiator Grille Assembly

Remove
1 Open the hood.
2 Remove the seven nuts (1) attaching the radiator grille
assembly (2) to the hood.
3 Remove the radiator grille assembly by pulling the
assembly away from the hood to disengage the guide
post (3) and attaching studs (4).

Disassemble
Radiator Grille Emblem Assembly, Level 1, 2 & 3
Remove
1 To assist removal, warm the emblem (1) with a heat-
lamp or heat-gun (2) to soften the adhesive.
2 Using a knife or paint scraper (3), carefully remove the
emblem assembly from the grille assembly, cutting the
double-sided tape.
3 Remove any remaining double-sided tape as required.

Reinstall
1 If reinstalling the existing emblem, remove the existing double-sided tape and clean the surface with wax and
grease remover such as Prepsol or equivalent. Apply new polyethylene double-sided tape such as 3M 4428 or
equivalent.
2 Clean the surface of the grille assembly with wax and grease remover such as Prepsol or equivalent.
3 Remove the backing paper from the double-sided tape.
4 Align the emblem within its recess in the grille assembly.
5 Affix the emblem and press firmly over the entire emblem for at least 10 seconds to ensure sound adhesion.

Radiator Grille Escutcheon, Level 1, 2 & 3
Remove
1 From the rear of the grille assembly, depress the
retaining tabs (1), eight places and (2), one place
each side of centre, attaching the radiator grille
escutcheon (3).
2 Remove the escutcheon from the grille.

Reinstall
1 Align the escutcheon retainers with their corresponding slots in the grille.
2 Fit the two components together and ensure the retainers are correctly seated.
Upper Grille Surround
Remove
1 From the rear of the grille assembly, depress the
retainers (1), 10 places, to remove the upper grille
surround (2), from the radiator grille (3).
2 Slide the upper grille surround from the radiator grille.
NOTE
The grille assembly hood seal (4) is part of the
upper grille surround and is not serviced on its
own.

Reinstall
1 Align the upper grille surround retainers with their corresponding slots in the radiator grille.
2 Fit the two components together and ensure all of the retainers are correctly seated.

Lower Grille Surround, Except Level 4 and Level 5 Gulf States
Remove
1 From the rear of the radiator grille (1), depress the
retainers (2), eight places, to remove the lower grille
surround (3) from the radiator grille .
2 Slide the grille surround away from the radiator grille.

Reinstall
1 Align the lower grille surround retainers with their corresponding slots in the grille inner.
2 Fit the two components together and ensure all of the retainers are correctly seated.
Radiator Grille Air Deflector, Level 5 Domestic
Remove
1 From the rear of the radiator grille, remove the two
screws (1) attaching the air deflector (2) to the radiator
grille (3).
2 Remove the air deflector.

Reinstall
1 Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the screws to the specified torque.

Reinstall
1 Referring to Figure 1C – 2, locate the radiator grille assembly guide post (3) and attaching studs (4) with the hood.
2 Install the seven retaining nuts and tighten to the specified torque.
