SECTION 5B - ABS & ABS/ETC
IMPORTANT:
Before performing any Service Operation or other procedure described in this Section, refer to Section
00 CAUTIONS AND NOTES for correct workshop practices with regard to safety and/or property damage.
1. GENERAL DESCRI PTI O N
The Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), is fitted as standard equipment on VU Series SS models and optional on S
models. Electronic Traction Control (ETC) is not available on VU Series Models
The conventional portion of this braking system (non ABS), comprises the standard, service braking system but with
specif ic brak e pipe lines and harnes s. T he m ast er cylinder can be externally identified by the fact that there are two
brake lines connected to it, rather than three, as with the standard braking system.

2. SERVICE INFORMATION
For servicing details on the ABS and ABS/ETC, reference can be made to the following Sections:

bearing/hub/sensor removal and/or installation operations.

axle sensor removal and replacement details.
c. General brake bleeding operations for the ABS and ABS/ETC are the same as for the standard, foundation
braking system. This operation is described in Section 5A STANDARD BRAKES of the VT Series I Service
Information.
Important: When bleeding operations are carried out, that involve the ABS hydraulic Control Module, then
specific p rocedures must be follow ed t hat requ ire the use of TECH 2. Ref er to Section 12L ABS & ABS/ETC
of the VT Series II Service Information for details.
d. Refer to Section 12L ABS & ABS/ETC of either the VX Series Service Information for electronic and other
hydraulic operations not described above.
